To sum things up if you want the game on Steam you have no choice but to pay at least the base version of the game to try it out. And we don't have a single clue how to register for it anyway since I couldn't find any links in the product's description. The Steam free trial seems to be a whole different thing on it's own: limited to 14 days of trial and without any possibilities to upgrade to a full account later (which is 100% pointless.). To make it work you have to use the download link from the official page, right after registering, that allows you to download a client specific to the SquarEnix free trial version. The account we've made using the official free trial register page simply doesn't work with the Steam free trial client.
